The Idea of Spanking will contain reflections, stories, essays and images on erotic spanking and discipline. There will be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. Often I like to blur the boundaries between the two.
I find erotic spanking and discipline in all its forms a deeply interesting, and exciting, subject. However, it is worth making a few brief comments (which I will expand in future posts) on the nature of this interest:
- I am interested in both the dominant and submissive sides of spanking (i.e. I would personally describe myself as a ‘switch’), and all permutations resulting from this: male/female, female/male, female/female and male/male.
- I have absolutely no interest in severe punishment (e.g. punishment leading to bloody marks or severe bruising), nor in anything other than the shallower waters of bondage and BDSM. Physical pain is an obviously important part of spanking, but I have little interest in either extreme sadism or masochism.
- Following from that, my interest is as much, if not more, in the psychological rather than physical aspects of spanking. The mental states of dominance, submission, humiliation, embarrassment, exposure, vulnerability, control and lack of control are all fascinating and the sort of topics I like to explore. In particular, it is where the psychological, the physical and the sexual/erotic intersect that most interests me—erotic spanking, almost by definition, is one such point.
- My interest strictly relates to consensual adult spanking. For what it’s worth, I am without reservation or exception opposed to all forms of non-consensual corporal punishment. For example, in my view there should be no place in modern society for the corporal punishment of children.
- Fantasy, imagination and pleasure are complex areas of the human psyche. I believe strongly that we can separate fantasy from reality, and that both fantasy and pleasure can be explored through imagination and play. For example, I have no interest in DD relationships as a reality; but I do believe they can be explored imaginatively and playfully.

Finally, I write because I enjoy writing and because I like to explore ideas through writing. But writing is also what I do. Consequently I am always happy to hear from publishers and fellow authors and bloggers with any proposals for projects, collaborations, commissions or publications. And, I might add, I also work as a freelance editor, so if you (or anyone you know) is looking for editorial or writing services, please feel free to contact me.
